Conditions We Treat

Vertigo & Dizziness Treatment in Seattle

Not all dizziness is the same. When it starts in the neck, hands-on care may help. When it does not, you deserve to be told that and pointed to the right provider.

Types of Dizziness

First, Figure Out Which Kind You Have

Cervicogenic Dizziness

Unsteadiness or a swimming sensation driven by neck dysfunction. The joints and muscles of the upper neck feed position information to the brain, and when they are irritated that signal gets distorted. This is the form of dizziness chiropractic care is best positioned to help.

BPPV (Positional Vertigo)

Brief, intense spinning triggered by rolling over or looking up, caused by loose crystals in the inner ear. BPPV is usually treated with specific repositioning maneuvers performed by a trained physician or vestibular therapist, and we refer patients when the exam points this way.

Other Vestibular Causes

Inner ear infections, Meniere's disease, migraines, and medication effects can all produce vertigo. These need medical diagnosis, which is why an honest exam and clear referral matter more than a one-size-fits-all treatment.

How We Help With Neck-Driven Dizziness

Careful History & Exam

The first job is sorting out which kind of dizziness you have. We screen for patterns that belong with a physician before any hands-on care begins.

Upper Cervical Chiropractic Care

For cervicogenic dizziness, gentle work on the upper neck joints may help restore normal joint motion and cleaner position signaling to the brain.

Neck Soft Tissue Work

Tight suboccipital and deep neck muscles are common in neck-driven dizziness. Releasing them may reduce both the unsteadiness and the neck pain that usually travels with it.

Posture & Movement Retraining

Forward head posture and guarded neck movement can keep symptoms going. Simple retraining supports the hands-on care between visits.

Red flags come first: dizziness with sudden hearing loss, double vision, slurred speech, weakness, numbness, or trouble walking should be evaluated by a physician immediately. We screen for these at your first visit and refer without delay when they appear.

Related Conditions

Cervicogenic dizziness rarely travels alone. It usually comes with the stiffness covered on our neck pain treatment page, and the same upper-neck dysfunction is a common driver of headaches. The gentle joint work behind both is described on our chiropractic care page.

FAQ

Vertigo Questions, Answered

Can chiropractic care fix my vertigo?

It depends on the cause. When dizziness is cervicogenic, meaning it comes from neck dysfunction, chiropractic and soft tissue care may help, and this is where we focus. Vertigo from the inner ear, such as BPPV or vestibular disease, needs different treatment, and we refer those cases rather than treating them.

How do you know if my dizziness comes from my neck?

Cervicogenic dizziness usually travels with neck pain or stiffness, follows neck injury or long hours of poor posture, and feels more like unsteadiness than violent spinning. Our exam looks at neck motion, joint tenderness, and symptom patterns, and we refer for vestibular or medical testing when the picture does not fit.

When is dizziness an emergency?

Seek medical care right away if dizziness comes with sudden hearing loss, double vision, slurred speech, facial drooping, numbness, severe headache, trouble walking, or fainting. Those are red flags that need a physician, not a chiropractor.

My ears ring too. Is that related?

It can be. Tinnitus sometimes accompanies neck dysfunction and jaw tension, and some patients notice both improve together as the neck is treated. Ringing with hearing loss or fullness in one ear, however, should be checked by a physician first.
